Underwater storage

Definition

An underwater area to store excavated shipwrecks and/or parts of shipswrecks, which can later be used for touristic purposes (e.g. as an underwater park).

The maritime plan in Estonia also designate wreckage storage areas for those ship hulls which cannot be preserved at their initial location or in museums. One such protected area is already in use in Estonia, in the Bay of Tallinn. Three shipwrecks have been moved into the storage area. Multibeam sonar image by Tuukritööde OÜ, 2020.
