Photo: The origin of the Kappeln herring fence dates back to the early 15th century. At that time, there were still almost 40 of these wicker fences to be found close together in the middle of the Schlei. Today, the herring fence consists of a total of 2000 posts made of wood driven into the Schleiground. Copyrigt: Archäologisches Landesamt Schleswig-Holstein.
