Definition
A trap construction made of wood or stone, which is erected in sheltered or flowing water.[1]
Description
The traps are typically placed along regular fish migration routes or spawning places.[2]
Photo: The origin of the Kappeln herring fence dates back to the early 15th century. At that time, there were still almost 40 of these wicker fences to be found close together in the middle of the Schlei.
